Known as CHOCO, graduated from the National School of Art (1970) and student of Literature at the Faculty of Arts and Philology of the University of Havana, a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and the Experimental Graphic Studio in Havana. Although he has dabbled in painting and sculpture, its main contribution is in the engraving mainly collagraph on paper and wood. It has been part of countless group exhibitions and has made more than twenty personal exhibitions. It has been multi-awarded both in Cuba and abroad, awarded First Prize of Engraving and Painting at the National Youth Salon (Cuba), Medal of Honor in the Bulgarian Graphics Salon (Bulgaria) and Grand Prix at the IV Kochi International Triennial Exhibition of Prints (Japan), among others.
His work -printed, pictorial and sculptural- represents generally anthropomorphic male figures with Negroid features; and goes from abstract to figurative expressionism and represents the imaginary and religiosity of Santeria -a fundamental aspect of Cuban culture and tradition. His pieces stand out for the variety of textures, colors sobriety, synthesis of compositional elements and the representation of religious icons Yorubas. His work is both in private collections and government of countries like Germany, Cuba, Colombia, Spain, United States, Mexico, and Japan.
